CLIENT Greek Orthodox Church

STATUS Under Construction

Located on the block just south of the World Trade Center in New York, the original St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church (SNC) building was a victim of the WTC tower collapse. After much litigation between the Church team and the Port Authority of NY and NJ, a site was given back to the church for reconstruction.

The new SNC site is located within a raised public park. A small street level entry contains an elevator and services for the building, while the main church and bereavement center are located at park level and above. Strict regulations on building size and height drive the plan orientation and layout.

Currently under construction after a lengthy collaboration between Koutsomitis Architects and Santiago Calatrava Architects.
